Collective centre Bergen in the Municipality of Graćanica/Graqanicë to be renovated to provide durable housing solutions for IDPs

Project duration: January 2020-June 2022
Project donor: European Union, co-funded by Ministry of Communities and Return

The overall objective of this action is to contribute to the realization of durable solutions for displaced families residing in collective centres (CC) in Kosovo.

The specific objective is to assist up to 81 displaced and socially vulnerable families to achieve durable solutions following their exit from collective centres in the Municipalities of Leposavić/Leposaviq, Zvećan/Zveqan and Graćanica/Graqanicë, enabling them to improve their living conditions, settle and fully participate in local community life.

In detail, the action aims to achieve three main results, which target housing solutions, improvement of socio-economic conditions and the capacity of the Municipalities of Leposavić/Leposaviq, Zvećan/Zveqan and Gracanica/Gracanicë to provide adequate conditions for successful integration of current CC residents following their exit from the centers.

Housing solutions have been found for displaced and vulnerable families facilitating their exit from collective centres

Through renovation of existing buildings and construction of apartment buildings, up to 81 families currently residing in collective centers in the Municipalities of Leposavić/Leposaviq, Zvećan/Zveqan and Graćanica/Graqanicë will be able to leave the centers and access adequate housing solutions.

Immediate needs of displaced families are addressed and their ability to access livelihood opportunities has been improved

Livelihoods and income-generation interventions in this project include provision of harmonized packages including food and non-food assistance, and a mix of income generation activities promoting both vocational skills improvements and self-employment.

The Municipalities of Leposavić/Leposaviq, Zvećan/Zveqan and Graćanica/Graqanicë have increased capacity to support the sustainable integration of displaced and vulnerable families in the local community.

Three Community Development projects will be implemented to benefit the wider community. In addition, a fund for projects improving services for the most vulnerable groups including the elderly, disabled or chronically ill, will be established in each municipality.
